The Descent Begins: When Life Falls Apart

There are moments when your carefully constructed life stops working. The relationship that was supposed to be forever crumbles. The career path that made sense suddenly feels like a prison. The version of yourself that everyone knew and accepted begins to crack. These are the descents—the times when what was solid beneath you dissolves and you're left in freefall.

We've been taught that descent is failure. That if something isn't working, it means we did it wrong, or we're not good enough, or we need to try harder. But descent isn't failure—it's transformation. It's the natural rhythm that all living things move through. Seeds must break apart in the soil before they become plants. Caterpillars must dissolve into literal goo inside the chrysalis before they become butterflies. Your old self must fall apart before you can become who you're becoming.

The invitation of the descent is to stop fighting it and start understanding it. To ask: what is this trying to teach me? What part of me has outgrown its container? What needs to die so that something new can be born? The descent isn't punishment—it's transformation in progress.

Descent is not failure or punishment—it's the necessary dissolution that precedes rebirth and transformation.
